Walking outdoors: 6 good reasons to stick to it!

Fitness and Nordic walking are both sports that can be done whenever you want. You can even walk indoors when it comes to fitness walking! Walking indoors is sometimes a tempting option when the weather conditions are not good... But you must admit that walking outdoors, in a park or by the water's edge, is always more inspiring for your mind as well as for your body! Exercise is even better when it's done outside: proven, 6 times over!

1 - Walking outside: time to completely let go!

It has been scientifically proven that: exercising in the open air encourages positive thoughts and reduces the negative effects of stress on the body.

So what are you waiting for, get outside! Firstly, simply allow yourself to be bathed in these relaxing effects, whilst reconnecting yourself to the nature all around you: observe, listen, inhale… In a word: unwind!

The best way? Walk in the morning to prime your physical and mental energy for facing the day ahead!

2 - Walking in the fresh air: a real breath of fresh air

When you exercise outdoors, you get your fill of fresh air and you improve your body's overall oxygen supply.

As you do this, you also learn to breathe properly, and you will develop your respiratory capacities with every session.

3 - Treat yourself to a walking session in the sun: boost your vitamin D

Walking outside also allows you to enjoy the benefits of natural light and the effect this has on your body.

Whether the sky is blue or grey, your body will start generating vitamin D. This "sunshine vitamin"' boosts your cardiovascular system and strengthens your bones. It's a real natural light therapy session!

4 - Fast walking outside: find your happy place

During your fitness or Nordic walking session, when you are exercising hard, your body will naturally secrete endorphins, the famous "happiness hormones".

It also produces serotonin, the pleasure hormone, which is produced in larger quantities when the sun is out, helping you to reach your zenith of positivity!

5 - Walking on rough terrain: the guarantee of an increased muscle workout

Unlike in the gym, nature offers a changeable walking terrain with its unceasing relief. Ideal for concentrating on your cardio workout!

Make the most of uneven ground, descents and slight inclines to include a range of challenges to your route.

You'll simultaneously tone up your glutes and thigh muscles!

6 - Explore new natural surroundings: and say goodbye to routine

Changing your environment regularly (park, forest, lake, etc.) stops you from falling into an uninspiring routine. By always treading the same path or running on the spot on your treadmill, you will find yourself less motivated to practise sport and gradually lose your enthusiasm. It's only human!

By doing regular outdoor fitness and Nordic walking sessions, you will boost your motivation and give yourself the best chances of sticking with it, whatever the season!

How about you? What are your reasons for going fitness or Nordic walking in the great outdoors?
